Questions about Six Month Smiles

What is Six Month Smiles?

Six month smiles is a new approach to traditional braces. In this new approach, the treatment is directed at straightening the front teeth that show when you smile.

Will my treatment really only take six months?

Most likely. Although it’s impossible to say how long your treatment will take, the average case takes about six months. Some take even less. A few take longer, but never longer than 9 months.

What are the benefits of Six Month Smiles?

The main benefit of Six Month Smiles is that treatment can be completed much faster than most traditional orthodontics treatments, which often take years. Also, because the front teeth are easier to move, the treatment can often be done with less tightness and discomfort than traditional braces that move all the teeth in your smile.

Another benefit of Six Month Smiles braces is that they use the latest in clear or stealthy orthodontic equipment, so in many cases no one knows you have your braces in.

Does Six Month Smiles move my teeth faster? Could that be dangerous?

Six Month Smiles moves your teeth at the same rate as in traditional orthodontic treatments. However, because we are only moving your front teeth, it takes less time. Your back teeth are stronger and more firmly in place, so moving them requires more force and more time.

Who is a candidate for Six Month Smiles?

The ideal candidate for Six Month Smiles:

  • Has a healthy bite
  • Has good general oral health
  • Is a non-smoker

The best way to learn whether you are a candidate is by scheduling a consultation at our Denver cosmetic dentist office.

What is the difference between Six Month Smiles and “invisible” plastic braces?

Six Month Smiles uses proven, traditional orthodontic treatment techniques to correct your smile. With invisible braces, you are not using braces at all, but a series of clear plastic aligners that push your teeth into place. Invisible braces take about the same time as traditional braces to straighten your teeth. Six Month Smiles is not only faster, it uses the proven technique of traditional orthodontics to get you more predictable, reliable results.

Will I have to wear a retainer after braces?

Yes. This is true of all orthodontic treatments. If you move the teeth, there is a possibility that they will move back. A retainer keeps this from happening.
