With digital charting, we are very well organized. Our computers are secured and safely backed up daily. No more paper charts getting lost or damaged.  This allows our office for the latest electronic communication.  Our software also helps us keep up with your cleaning appointments so you don't have to.  We are also being environmentally friendly with no need for paper charts.

Digital Dental X-rays

With digital dental x-rays, lower radiation exposure occurs. Digital x-ray sensors do not need the amount of radiation that traditional film require. Another benefit is there is no developing, once the x-ray is taken, the image is instantly on the screen. Our digital X-rays also give a High Definition image. They can be modified in many ways to aid in diagnosis. Emailing and printing is a snap. More importantly, there are no developing chemicals or other x-ray waste involved, which allows us to be kind to the environment.

Clear intraoral photos of your teeth taken to show you clear images of your dental needs.

Extraoral Photography

High resolution extraoral photos are also taken to achieve superior results. This can aid in dental diagnostics, especially in the area of cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics.

Velscope

The VELscope system is the first oral cancer screening device to incorporate fluorescence visualization technology to help detect abnormal tissue , including cancer and precancer. The science behind tissue this technology has been supported by over $50 million in research funded by the National Institutes of Health and other prestigious organizations. The VELscope system is the first adjunctive device cleared by the FDA and Health Canada to help clinicians see cancerous and precancerous lesions that might not be visible to the naked eye. The VELscope is also the first device cleared to help surgeons determine the appropriate surgical margins if surgery is indicated. This is extremely important, as oral surgery often fails to remove 100% of the targeted tissue.

Diagnodent Pen

This is a diagnostic aid that allows us to see into a part of your teeth X-rays do not show. The chewing surface of the tooth is one area that is very susceptible to getting cavities. Traditionally, dentist stuck a sharp instrument into the tooth and felt for a stick. Research shows this method damages the tooth and can be unreliable for the diagnosis of cavities. The diagnodent shines a light that only penetrates cavitated tooth structure. It gives a measurement of how far down the light shines inside the tooth, the higher the measurement, the larger the cavity. This tool is over 90% accurate at diagnosing decay in the tooth. This allows for earlier detection, ultimately preserving more natural tooth structure by catching the cavity early.

Ultrasonic Cleaning and Scaling

Traditional cleaning utilizes sharp metal instruments to scrape tartar from your gums and teeth. We still utilize these traditional techniques, but before we do, we utilize an ultrasonic. Ultrasonic's provide a high frequency micro pulse vibration that causes tartar to be removed from your teeth easily. Less scraping sounds can lead to a positive cleaning experience. You can make the analogy of a manual toothbrush vs an electric toothbrush, to this machine vs hand cleaning instruments.

Electric Drills

There are two types of dental drills, air driven and electric. The traditional air driven drills produce the noise people fear the most. Electric drills are relatively new, they produce a quieter noise. We can also set the RPM's of the drills for more comfort. Quit drills can lead to reduced anxiety. Just another way we strive to provide you with a better experience.

Six Month Smiles

This orthodontic technique utilizes space aged nickel titanium wires. Nickel titanium is a metal that can't be permenantly bent. The wire if bent always tries to get back to its original shape. This is was causes the tooth movement.

Magnification and LED Lighting

Dr. Johnston uses magnification and extra lighting to aid in complete visualization while work is being completed. This is the standard of care for brain surgeons. It will be a standard of care for dentist in the future.

GURU Patient Education Software

Most people learn visually. We understand! We have patient education software that allows you to see exactly what a procedure is. We want you to understand your treatment. This software has video and images that can be stopped and discussed right in front of you on the screen!

Laser Dentistry

Did you know? Lasers are being used to drill teeth! Our office provides laser dentistry. Lasers are a safe and reliable treatment option compared to some traditional modalities. Lasers in dentistry can provide a number of beneficial services. Healing time is minimal with the laser. Based upon your treatment needs, we will let you know if the laser is a great option for you. Dr. Johnston serves as an area luminary for Hoya Conbio Lasers.

Mercury Filter

While not a state requirement, our office utilizes a mercury filter. This purifies mercury from our vaccum lines preventing it from going into the city waste stystem. Dentist have been targeted for putting mercury into water supplies. This prevents mercury from getting into the water system. We strive to be enviromentaly contious.

Water Filters

In office water filtration systems, filter our public water lines before it enters your mouth. We strive to achieve a high level of sterile contiousness.
